Quick Home Cleaning Tasks to Add to Your Daily Routine

March 13, 2025 House cleaning

We all have different busy schedules, but one thing remains constant – none of us have enough hours in the day to keep our homes clean! If you spend all week surrounded by clutter and then all weekend cleaning, then it’s a good idea to tick a few home cleaning tasks off your list everyday, instead of putting them off until Saturday morning.

There’s some tasks to do once a week, and a few to try every day (if you have the time and energy), so give them a go this spring cleaning season and see how easy it is to build these long-term habits and enjoy the freedom that comes with them!

1. Hoover One Room Per Day

If you leave early for work and don’t get home until late, your floors probably don’t get much attention until the dreaded full-house hoover on a Saturday morning. By then, the hoover is working overtime to tackle an entire week’s worth of dust and fibres in every room, so the trick is to compartmentalise by hoovering or mopping one room in the house each day of the week.

This doesn’t need to take more than 5 or 10 minutes, and it can help to get the kids involved. Rather than asking them to hoover the whole house, which will only get you some moans, groans, and a half hoovered floor, simply give them one floor to focus on once they get home from school and help them to see the difference made by these few minutes of effort every day.

2. Wipe Down Surfaces

This is a task that is best done everyday, or sometimes twice a day, as we all know how quickly dust, fingerprints, food stains and general grime can cover our surfaces.

Grab a microfibre cloth and some antibacterial spray and give your kitchen, living room and hallway surfaces a good wipedown. Try and get as much done as possible in 5 or 10 minutes before you leave for work in the morning or once you get home, and don’t worry about trying to tackle the bedroom and bathroom surfaces as you probably won’t find time for these home cleaning tasks everyday.

If you do have a little more time left over, why not wipe down your kettle, microwave and any other kitchen appliances that can be moved around and cleaned in just a few minutes.

3. Take Out Rubbish

We all pile empty packages and containers on the side whilst cooking dinner but this clutter can quickly build up, particularly if other family members see it and begin to add to it as well. It goes without saying that you should take out the rubbish and recycling every day, but get into the habit of doing this several times a day instead of leaving it until the last minute.

So, why not set up a recycling box in the garage or just outside the back door to throw recycling into as you go, and then empty this into the outdoor bins? It should also be a non-negotiable in your household that the kitchen bin is emptied as soon as it is full and a new liner put in immediately.

4. Clean Bathroom

Now comes the dreaded bathroom clean! Don’t worry – dedicating just a few minutes to your bathroom each day will keep it clean and make your weekend home cleaning tasks so much easier.

Start by wiping down all your bathroom surfaces (Monday), spraying and cleaning the shower glass and mirror (Tuesday), cleaning the bath and sink (Wednesday), tackling the toilet (Thursday), mop the floor (Friday), and then finish up with a general clean on Saturday before giving the surfaces a final wipedown, replacing any empty bottles and adding in a new reed diffuser.

5. Scrub the Toilet

No one likes this last task, but to keep your home in the best condition it’s a good idea to pay attention to the toilet for just a few minutes every day.

This doesn’t mean putting on your rubber gloves and giving it a deep clean, as this is still a task that can be done once a week, but it does mean giving the toilet bowl a good clean with a toilet brush and the relevant cleaning products, wiping down the seat and lid with an antibacterial wipe and leaving the disinfectant spray for a few minutes to fully break down any stains.

Then all that’s left to do is flush the toilet and swirl a final dose of bleach around the rim to keep it clean all day long.
